Update on Capital Task Force – email from Lisa and Ken 3/1/19

Message sent on behalf of Lisa Walker and Ken Goldman, co-chairs of Capital Infrastructure Task Force:

Dear Colleagues,

We thought it might be useful to provide you all with an update on the Capital Infrastructure Task Force prior to the upcoming ECC meeting.

As a brief reminder, our group was tasked with working in partnership with college leadership to develop, and begin to implement, a fundraising plan for the next phase of the capital plan on the Engineering Quad. We are happy to report the following:

  1. Creation of marketing and communications plan for both internal and external audiences. Multiple channel approach taken to socialize the next phase of the project, namely the pending renovation of the Hollister complex.
  2. Dinners with Dean Collins hosted in New York, Chicago, Silicon Valley, and Coral Gables (outreach to almost 200 people through these marquee events).
  3. Gift conversations underway with lead donors.
  4. Additional individuals identified (previously unknown) with potential interest in investing in capital support, a critical initiative for Lance as he concludes his deanship in June 2020.

With the fundraising and marketing initiative well underway for the Hollister complex, we feel as though it is a natural point for our group to officially conclude our work. However, we will reconvene, as needed, at the request of the Dean.

Thank you to all of you for your support throughout the process. Your many contributions to our thinking, including your continued investment of time, talent and treasure, have helped the college move a transformational project forward.

Lisa and Ken

The update shows strong momentum as the Task Force moves the Hollister renovation forward through multi-city donor outreach, strategic communications, and early gift discussions. Their decision to conclude formal work feels well-timed now that fundraising structures are in place, while still allowing flexibility to reconvene if needed. Integrating a simple reference system — even something like freddy’s menu prices — could help streamline tracking of donor insights and next steps as the initiative continues.
