Sila Logo

Sila Nanotechnologies – June to Dec. 2023
Process Research Intern

I optimized and spearheaded scale up of process improvements to improve morphology of a nanostructured ceramic battery material.

Cuberg (now part of Northvolt) – Summer 2018
Research & Development Intern

As an intern, I worked closely with company scientists to develop safe next-generation electrolytes for high energy density lithium-metal batteries for applications in electric aviation.

SDNI – Summer 2017
Research Experience for Undergraduates

I designed and built an automatic cloud point titration setup and an accompanying MATLAB program to determine the solubility limits of liquid-solid systems.

Research

Resonant Elastic X-ray Scattering of an Alkaline Fuel Cell Catalyst

As a member of Prof. Andrej Singer’s research group, I conducted and analyzed operando resonant elastic X-ray scattering of a spinel oxide for alkaline fuel cells. This study revealed crystalline strain, a phase transformation, and corresponding transition metal oxidation state changes under applied voltage. This work is under review. Full results can be found here in ArXiv.

Operando synchrotron x-ray study of NaxNi1/3Mn2/3O2

As a member of Prof. Andrej Singer’s research group, I analyzed single particle operando diffraction data of NaxNi1/3Mn2/3O2 during charge. This study revealed complex structural phase behavior affected by Jahn-Teller distortions. Full results can be found here in Advanced Energy Materials.

Low voltage study of Li4Ti5O12

As a member of Prof. Ping Liu’s research group, I characterized the structure and electrochemical performance of lithium titanate at low voltage. These insights showed an increase in specific capacity of Li4Ti5O12 by reversibly cycling to a lower voltage. Full results can be found here in ACS Materials Letters.
