The Computing On Earth Lab brings together techniques and approaches from the social sciences, humanities, arts and engineering to rethink the planetary dimensions and foundations of computing. We investigate computing-related problems of sourcing and extraction, energy and water, and waste, maintenance and repair. We also study how new computational tools and infrastructures may be reconfiguring existing ways of knowing, relating to, and living on Earth. Our work seeks to impact research, policy, education, and design, along with the everyday practice and public imagination of computing and sustainability themselves. It also seeks to foster new modes of experimentation in pedagogy and research, and support like-minded projects and collaborations around the university, around our communities, and around the planet.
