Dr. Matthew Bahnson

Dr. Matthew Moreira Bahnson is a Research Scientist in the UBelong Collaborative studying undergraduate belongingness in engineering. His appointment is in the Department of Engineering Education at Purdue University and a Visiting Research Scientist position at Cornell University with Dr. Allison Godwin’s Shaping Transformative Research on Identity and Diversity in Engineering Lab. Matthew recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Engineering Cognition Research Lab in Mechanical Engineering at Penn State with Dr. Catherine Berdanier. His research focuses on professional identity, discrimination, attrition, and persistence in graduate STEM education. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied and Social Psychology from North Carolina State University, an M.A. from The University of Chicago, and a B.A. from The University of Iowa. He has received recognition for his research at NCSU and his contributions to the engineering education community from the Journal of Engineering Education and the Education Research & Methods division of ASEE.
