Engineering Affinity Professional Organizations
Simmons Scholars are encouraged to participate in Student Organizations and Professional Engineering Societies. Participation enhances students’ undergraduate experience by enabling access to broader student and professional networks, offering leadership experience, and connecting Scholars with internship and career recruitment opportunities.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities
Bridges Scholars have access to undergraduate research opportunities through the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP), Engineering Learning Initiatives (ELI) REU, the Engineering Summer Math Institute (ESMI), the Cornell Undergraduate Research Board, and the Office of Undergraduate Research.
Internships, Graduate School Admission, and Careers
Bridges Scholars have access to the Engineering Engineering Career Center and Career Services, which provide opportunities for internship and career exploration, development, planning, and networking. Additionally, Scholars benefit from graduate school exploration and admissions support resources.
Engineering Leadership and Certificate Programs
Bridges Scholars have access to Cornell Engineering Leadership Programs, including coaching, the Engineering Leadership Certificate Program, Leadership Skills Clinics, and Engineering Leadership Classes.
Project Teams
Bridges Scholars are encouraged to participate in Project Teams. Alongside their colleagues, Scholars will hone teamwork; professional and problem-solving skills; network and build relationships with corporate sponsors and potential future employers; and earn course credit. Involvement also offers significant opportunities for Scholars to develop leadership skills in authentic applied contexts.
DPE-Sponsored Professional Development Events
DPE offers professional development events throughout the year to advance Scholars’ career and growth, and to support acquisition of skills and strategies needed to effectively present and navigate in a professional manner.
